Itinerary description
A power ride if you're short of time and live around lisburn-dunmurry. This route will take you through quieter back roads and some really steep climbs, meaning you'll get a few rewarding descents!
Directions:
If you start in derriaghy, climb Barnfield rd, take the fast and longer descent on Colinglen rd to then finish your climb on Glenside rd. Then ride down Hannahstown rd but before it ends take a more exciting shortcut through Rusheyhill rd which has two great corners with full view in case of oncoming cars (no one ever uses that rd anyway).
Head towards Stonyford and ride around the reservoir (here is a great place for a short snack-and-refuel break). Take White Mountain rd and you're on for a treat on this lonely country road with a stunning view. Next, head down to Lisburn and if you're going back to derriaghy, do so either via Derriaghy rd which is smooth but busy or via Old School Ct which is quiet but for good reason since it's full of pot holes and loose gravel (still though, it's nice not to have cars passing you at 70mph)
Difficulty:
A couple of steep climbs (up to 10%), none much longer than 2km. They are hard work and technical, requiring good pace and muscle. This is a short ride for training or quick excercise and if you really go for it you'll get a good work out, specially with the steep climbs.
Other:
Beautiful views. Windy (can get very windy on the top).
