Itinerary description
Cycling - The 12' Stage of Giro d'Italia 2019 was from Cuneo to Pinerolo. A good occasion to go see it, but also ride the two climbs of the stage while taking advantage of the closed roads before the passage of the race. In such occasions one is never alone, as thousands of enthusiasts can't wait to measure themselves on the race course.
The climb to Montoso KOM is classified as Category 1 and consists of 9 Km of relentless climb at 11% average grade with sections at 14%. It is then followed by a fast descent, freshly paved for the occasion, which was deserted though as it seemed that all enthusiasts had stopped at the KOM to cheer the race to pass by a couple of hours later. My brother-in-law and I had other plans, that was riding to Pinerolo on the closed course and up to the 20% grade cobbles of San Maurizio climb - in Pinerolo's Old City - to wait for the race passage.
Great day out with perfect weather, and joyful atmosphere all over.
