Itinerary description
Cycling - Today's stage was deemed as one among the most exciting Giro stages in years, and such forecast met the expectations. The orography of Torino's urban territory made an apt substitute for a "mountain" stage with 3,100 m (10,200 ft.) of positive climb with two and a half loops through steep roads.
Aim for the day was to ride a portion of the closed circuit, usually possible hours before the race, but this time the access was limited and strictly enforced. We were then forced to stop about a quarter-mile short of our planned point, where the uphill grade is about 19%, but anyway a good spot to enjoy the day in the shade and in good company of former Alpini volunteers.
The climate was exceptionally hot for the season.
