Itinerary description
Cycling - A monument to Marco Pantani stands at the Colle dei Morti (elevation 2481m, 8,140 ft), known to most as Colle della Fauniera. It can be reached from three different sides, hardest of which - and quite famous since the 1999 Giro d'Italia - is from Pradleves in the Grana Valley.
This is one of the hardest climbs in the Alps.
After a few mild kilometers from the start, it averages over 10% gradient with spikes at 15%.
The "Legendary Climbs" non-competitive events, organized yearly by the Terres Monviso association, consist of traffic-free roads on selected dates for five notorious climbs in the area dragging hundreds of cycling enthusiasts.
Registered participants today were 1200+ (source: VeloViso).
Colle di Esischie, just before the final destination, is also part of the "Fausto Coppi" event.
