Itinerary description
This track is suitable for bicycle and walking. It passes by various landscapes and attractions. The stretch on the old railroad, the road to Tjaukle river and the forest road from Vänge to Buttle are unsealed. The road to Disrojr and Langhammar’s nature reserve is very poor and more suitable for a mountain bike or for walking. There are two alternative routes to take to avoid this road. Take the main road from Vänge to Buttle (no 534 much traffic) or continue on the unsealed road (Ekdalavägen)in the forest until you come to the sealed road between Buttle to Ala and take a right turn going to Buttle (c 5 km extra).

Buttle Bulhus
This is Buttle Parish Community ground with an old style wooden house (Bulhus).
Buttle Community Ground
Here is the starting point if the Gute Mid-Gotland bicycle trail. This is a Commons for Buttle Parish where Midsummer celebrations and the annual Lamb Grill Party is taking place. A traditional style house “Bulhus” has been moved and set up here. Here you can find information on what to see in Buttle and if there is any pop-up lunch, fika or other activities. The community ground is managed by Buttle Hembygdsförening (Historical Society).
Änge Picture Stones
Picture Stones are unique for Gotland.The two stones at Änge is among the 15 in original position. The tall stone is the highest on Gotland. The stones are from the Viking time. A digital reconstruction show an reconstruction of the original pictures and the surrounding landscape.
Buttle Railway Station
There was a network of railroad tracks on Gotland initiated in the late 1800s but the train traffic ceased in 1960. The poet Sonia Åkesson was born here and Buttle Railway station is now a private summer house.
Tjaukle River Area
Here is a recreation and pick nick area by the river that has the original flow. The majority of the rivers and lakes on Gotland have been drained and ditched to produce more farmland around a 100 years ago. This changed the landscape completely but here is a part that have remained unchanged. This area is maintained and managed by the landowner.
Organ Museum
This small museum is dedicated to the Organ constructor Alfred Cedergren in the beginning of the last century.
Vänge Medieval Church
This Church is from the 12th century. The Font is by the master carver Hegvald and there are relief stones at the south gate by the master Bysantinos.
Art Gallery “Skolgalleriet”
The school in Vänge was built 1918 and was closed down 1970. Here are permanent and changing exhibitions by the artist couple Anders Thorlin and Karin Degerfeldt. Sometimes they arrange courses in stone masonry.
Disrojr Bronze Age Cairn
Here is one larger cairn from the Bronze Age situated on the border of Vänge and Buttle parish. The area is also geologically interesting with cracks in the limestone bedrock and a sinkhole. Disrojr refers to the cairn where the Fairies dance!
Nature Reserve Lindhammar’s Mire
Here is the south east end of the Nature Reserve Lindhammar. This is the only large mire on Gotland that have not been drained and ditched.
Buttle Medieval Church
Was built in the 12th century and have a beautiful and very old triumph crucifix. The frescoes on the wall and the triptych are from the 15th century. Parts of a picture stone is found in the floor just below the altar.
Nygårds Lamm and Bee Farm
One of the larger Lamb farms on Gotland. They have a shop on the farm where you can buy lamb and bee products.
Änge Ancient Road and Iron Age Settlements
Here is the beginning and end point for a walking track on an ancient road that leads to the Picture Stones and Iron Age farms.
