Itinerary description
On this cycle trip I started from home in Sidney to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and on to to the Tsawwassen terminal. The track log starts leaving theTswwassen terminal and heads up the Hw 17 causeway to the mainland. BC senior travel for free on weekdays on BC Ferries. The cost was only $2 for a bike each way The destination is the "Point to Point" parcel service just across the border in Point Roberts WA to pick up a package, the "magnum opus" of Sara Schechner "The Time of Our Lives, The Sundials of the Adler Planetarium".
Google Maps suggested a route involving Sprigs Blvd but this dead ended at a huge construction site, Tsawwassen Springs condos. I tried the cart path through the golf course but this trespass gained nothing. On the return I stayed on 52 St to the highway that had a good cycle lane. I continued on following the option offered by Google Maps. Rather than the car route through downtown o 56 St with busy street and few cycle lanes I took 52 St to Cliff Drive and then over to English Bluff Rd. This was a easy cycle through the ritzy part of Tsawwassen past many expensive estates with views from the bluff over the Straits of Georgia. Border crossing were quick and easy for bikers with NEXUS cards both ways. The reward of this days outing was an interesting cycle, over 33 km in total and picking up the gem of a book on sundials.
