Itinerary description
Day 1 of another bikepacking trip around Palawan. The aim of this trip was to ride roads I still haven’t ridden in the north half of the island.
The bike used for the trip was a cyclocross type Kona Sutra LTD with 700 x 47 tires and 30Tx10-42 gear. Wikiloc limits to 25 the number of waypoints to add to the track. If you want more waypoints (stores, places to eat and stay, etc.) just contact me and I will send them to you.
As I had ridden this first part of the route before and there are no other options to it I decided to ride the 135km to Roxas in a day. The route follows the national highway, all cemented. The route has a few steep climbs and there will be usually headwind if riding in north direction. There are many stores where you can buy drinks and food and canteens where you can eat along the way.
Even if there is not a lot of traffic, the passenger vans that do routes along this road drive very fast.
I stayed at Peria Seafront Pension, 500/800PHP fan/aircon room. Rooms are big and clean and there is a jetty right at the back in the sea side. Roxas is a big town where you can find almost anything you need. The next big town if heading north will be Taytay and it will be difficult to find things such “Energizer” batteries for GPS out of big towns. There is a French restaurant called La Guinguette that serves both Philippino and western dishes.
