Itinerary description
Had three days en route from Aktobe to Astana, covering 1500km on mainly good roads. We camped both nights finding, a few trees away from the road we could hide behind.
We have reached the second of our two staging posts. Tomorrow evening Rachael and Mark fly in to join us for the last leg to Ulaan Baatar and on Sunday Tim and Vik fly back to the UK. So far we have covered 4,670 miles, with another 2,500ish to go. Looking forward to two days off before starting out on our final leg.
Amazingly flat countryside, with very few features, and very few people. It pays to keep the fuel tank topped up as filling stations are a rarity in some parts. The main activity seems to be farming, as we have seen huge grain stores. There are large tracts of land where no activity seems to take place. The other activity seems to be mining as we have passed many huge mines.
