DAY 8 (October 16, 2016)
This day unfortunately I forgot to turn on the GPS and I turned it on just when we were arriving at Mweka Gate, in order to record something I left it on until the hotel where we stayed in the city of Moshi.
The night before, the guide told us about the possibility of getting up very early in order to avoid the queues that form at the Mweka gate where everyone must register, porters and tourists.
It had not yet dawned (maybe that's why I forgot to turn on the GPS), when we were already on the move. As always we left the porters picking up.
The path was tedious, 4 hours of descent with little interest along a winding and wooded path, some trees of exceptional size and a group of small monkeys that we could see.
When we arrived we took photos at the last gate, signed the corresponding sheet and walked 1.5 km along the access road. It was Sunday and the children welcomed us with their best clothes asking us for candy and chocolate, but they didn't overwhelm us.
We arrived at a tourist center with a quantity of carvings, paintings, and jewelry to sell to tourists. I think it was by far the best building we saw in Moshi, very well equipped.
Most importantly, they had beers and they were cold. We drank a couple of them, in Tanzania all beers are 0.5 L. After a short wait they took us to the hotel in the same van that they brought us (about 40')
Once all the luggage had arrived and dismantled, we prepared the tips for all the porters, cook and guides, which we gave one by one, hugging them and thanking them for all the effort they had made, which I assure you was a lot.
Given the treatment we had received from them, we decided to give them everything we had in dollars, but distributed among so many it was not everything we would have wanted but we did not have more. We gave away some of the things that we had used during the journey and we hesitated to give them all the medicines that we had carried in case and that in the end we did not do since we doubted if they were going to be used properly.
Finally they gave us a room where we took a shower with very hot water, we needed to remove all the dust that we had accumulated along the way and we dressed in the clothes that we had left at the reservation hotel.
Another beer, a nap and they came to pick us up to take us to the airport.
Returning home eager to see our women.
