Itinerary description
Kund Bangla was another forest department's rest house like Dagri bangla and Sattu Bangla. It can be approached from Balakot and Shinkiari via jeep, bike or hike. The original building has been demolished and there is grey structure standing for a new rest house. There is not water and winds are very strong with stunning Kaghan Valley views. Just 2 kilometer before Kund bangla, historical Munro Trail starts, which offers multiple day trekking across the forest and several camping spots. It was recently rehabilitated and inaugurated the weekend we went there.
Along with a friend, I left early in the morning and caught a van direct to Shinkiari. It's better and convenient, otherwise you will need to reach Mansehra and catch a van to Shinkiari from there. After reaching Shinkiari, we had breakfast and bought some water, candies and biryani for our dinner. The trek starts from Forest Department Institute which was somewhat 5 kilometers away from the town. We hired a taxi for Rs. 500to drop us off. There was carpeted road uptill there, and after it, there was jeep road. We embarked on a day long hike on a very hot day.
Taxi's are easily available in Shinkiari and most of the drivers asked for Rs. 800, the finally one asked for Rs. 500 only and I booked him.
You can also hike upto the Forest Institute but that is just another 2 hours of hike.
