By the name, you must have already realized what awaits us inside these parks: the extraordinary redwoods. Although Sequoia and Kings Canyon are two separate national parks, they are very close to each other and both impress with the large number of these giant trees.
The parks are approximately 330 km north of Los Angeles and are located in the longest mountain range in the USA, Sierra Nevada. Within the Sequoia Park is Mount Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States (not counting Alaska) at 4,421 m in height.
At Sequoia National Park we visited:
• Great Trees Trail: a short and accessible trail with dozens of imposing redwoods;
• General Sherman Tree Trail: the most voluminous tree in the world, 83.8 meters high, 2 thousand tons and 11.1 meters in diameter at the base. It is estimated that it has 2,300 to 2,700 years of life!
• Tokopah Falls: beautiful rapids 360 meters long;
• Mineral King Valley: beautiful valley, where we did a 5 km trail to reach a pleasant lake.
And at Kings Canyon National Park we saw:
• Kings Canyon: imposing canyon with giant granite walls. We did the Zunwalt Meadows trail, which extends for 5 km and shows incredible views of the interior of the canyon, as well as the beautiful Roaring River Falls. There are also other viewpoints to contemplate the magnitude of Kings Canyon;
• Grant Tree Trail: second largest tree in the world, 81.5 meters high and 8.8 meters in diameter at the base;
• Fallen Goliath: little visited trail to visit this huge fallen redwood and countless others.
One attraction that seems to be beautiful and we stopped visiting was the climb to the top of Moro Rock. Take a look at Google and be sure to meet her on her trip to Sequoia NP.
It is worth mentioning that there is a free bus service that connects the sights of the parks.
