Itinerary description
Drive from Navoi to Sarmyshsai Gorge Rock Carvings. This is off the beaten track for Uzbekistan Silk Route visitors who typically only stop in Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Navoi is on the road from Bukhara to Samarkand. From Navoi reaching the rock carvings is a short 430km trip which can be easily done by car. No special vehicles are required to access the site. The carvings are visible from the road track. With some moderate climbing (no equipment required) one can get a real close-up look and touch and feel the petroglyphs. These are mostly Bronze Age with some interesting charachteristics: dancing couples, lots of bulls, some cosmonaut looking well endowed men, etc.
