Itinerary description
Once you take the Yuba Gap offramp from Hwy 80, follow these directions “in reverse” as this recording was started at the Salmon Lake Trailhead parking area going back up to Hwy 80.
There were no road signs marking our drive today. Luckily, we followed an old Wikiloc recording for driving directions somebody had made back in 2008. Here is an update to that!
Know that you will be driving around the northern border of Lake Valley Reservoir so if any signs are put back, look for Lake Valley Rd when choosing which road to take. The road is dirt, gravel, and rock with lots of washboarding and a few ruts and potholes. Most of it is two-car width but the last +/- mile is single-car width with no chance of turning around.
Today’s road condition started out good enough, but overall this road was rough! A high-clearance vehicle is a must. 4WD and AWD would be preferred but regular drive will get you there too. Just be prepared to be jolted & bounced around with a few big “ka-dunks” thrown in just to keep you alert!
