USA Road trip day 3: Las Vegas-Valley of Fire (Nevada) Destination: Kanab (Utah).
12/08/2023
On day three of our road trip, we departed from Las Vegas, Nevada, and headed northeast towards our destination: Kanab, Utah.
Our primary stop for the day was the renowned Valley of Fire State Park, situated in Nevada.
The drive from Las Vegas to the Valley of Fire State Park was approximately one hour, taking us through arid desert landscapes. Upon arrival, we drove the Scenic Road to White Dome known as the Mouse's Tank Road to explore the park's striking red sandstone formations, which appeared to be aflame in the desert sun.
We pulled over for the Rainbow Vista hike. As we began our hike, we found ourselves surrounded by towering red sandstone formations, each uniquely shaped and displaying a mesmerising array of red, orange, and pink hues which seem to come alive in the desert sun, creating a striking contrast against the blue sky. The highlight of the hike was the Rainbow Vista overlook, from where we were rewarded by an expansive panoramic view of the valley below. From this vantage point, you can witness the intricate layers of rock formations, which appear to be painted with nature's brush.
Another hot spot which was worth the stop under a torrid heat: The White Domes, a large smooth, and white sandstone formation that stands out prominently amidst the park's red sandstone landscape. This natural wonder is the result of erosion and unique mineral deposits in the sandstone, which create its distinctive pale coloration.
We traversed the sandy terrain, surrounded by these distinctive ivory-colored rocks, to climb to the overlook that provides an up-close view of the White Dome's unique geological features.
After spending several hours exploring the Valley of Fire' natural wonders, we continued our journey towards Kanab, Utah, where we planned to stay the next 4 days.
