Itinerary description
Nice road trip through forest and vineyards north of Bergerac
After our hike through the vineyards of Monbazillac and Colombier, south of Bergerac, we decided to take the car to explore the area north of Bergerac. This route is based on the brochure "Circuit Voiture Nord" which can be purchased at the tourist office of Bergerac.
This 45 km road trip starts in Bergerac at the parking lot of the Quai Salvette, close to the old bridge over the river Dordogne (WYPT "vieux pont") and leaves the city on the north side via Place du Palais, Place Gambetta (WYPT), Rue St Martin and Route de la Brunetiére. After turning right you will see the Lac de Ponbonne (WYPT) on your right hand side. This is a nice reacreative area to have a picknick or make a short walk around the lake.
We follow the route to Lembras and Queyssac, a small nicely restaurated village with a gothic church of the 11th century (WYPT "Queyssac - Église Saint-Pierre-Ès-Liens"). We park the car (WYPT "Queyssac parking") and make a short walk through this village.
We leave Queyssac via the D21E1. Here this route deviates from the route on the brochure. Instead of going left in the direction "La Mouthe" we continued on the D21E1 till the D107. There we turn left and after 1,7 km we take a right turn in the direction of "Lescuretie". We're back on track again!
Next we go to Ginestet, passing Carriere, going south to Ste-Foy-des-Vignes (WYPT)and Le Lardeau, and going back northwards again via the D709 and Cabanétas. At the roundabout of Ginestat (WYPT) we make an almost 360 and take the road in the direction of Bergerac par Ratougnac. Turn left after 3 km in the direction Gueyte and follow the road until the D13. Continue in the direction of George. At the next cross (D34) the brochure directs you straight ahead. However, due to the construction of a new highway, this road has a dead end (WYPT) and you have to go left on the D34. After 700 m. turn right and after 450 m turn left to La Faurie: back on track again!
Via the D32 we go back to Bergerac to finish this short but interesting road trip at the Quai Salvette.
This route can perfectly be done on a racing bike as well.
