Itinerary description
General Stephen Watts Kearny, a soldier during the Mexican-American War, provided his name to Fort Kearny. The nearby town of Kearney, NE reflects a common misspelling of his name. The original construction at Fort Kearny was supervised by Lieutenant Daniel Woodbury. He would have shared the site with dozens of other soldiers.
