Itinerary description
In July 2013 we took part in The Mongolia Charity Rally, driving from London to Ulaan Baatar. This is day one of our trip.
The fun begins. Had a great send off from Horse Guards Parade. Many thanks to Go Help for arranging a super event and letting us go first.
I said at the start the thing we feared most were going to be border crossings. I've changed my mind to travelling across London. It took us so long we missed our Shuttle spot and were delayed until 4.30pm. Add on an hour and we arrived in Calais at 6.00pm. Immediate stop was diesel, for which we paid €1.40 per litre, then set off for Saint Quentin. Arrived at 8.00pm after a wonderful drive on the empty French motorways, only to find the first two hotels we tried fully booked. Luckily the third had a room. Great meal in the town square which has been turned into a beach.
