Corinto // Corinth

Esta es una excursión de un día desde las inmediaciones de Atenas hasta Corinto, para visitar el canal de Corinto y las ruinas de la fortaleza de Acrocorinto. Si dispones de coche, es una sencilla salida a uno de los lugares más bonitos que puedes visitar a unos 100-110 kilómetros de Atenas

El canal de Corinto es una gran obra hidráulica construida para conectar el mar Egeo con el mar Jónico. Hoy en día está casi reservado para uso de barcos turísticos. Consiste en un profundo y estrecho corte en la tierra, muy curioso. Es frecuente que haya derrumbamientos de las paredes y que el paso de barcos esté interrumpido. Existe un punto de observación típico para turistas pero nosotros encontramos otro lugar mejor, sin nadie, y que tiene un precioso puente de ferrocarril abandonado y un antiguo nido de ametralladoras alemán de la II guerra mundial. A continuación fuimos al puente del lado oeste. No tiene mucho interés pero es curioso porque es un puente sumergible

Pero la joya del día es la fortaleza de Acrocorintio. Hay mucha literatura sobre este lugar en Internet así que no voy a describir aquí esta fortaleza. Visitar este lugar por completo puede resultar fatigoso porque es muy extensa y hay muchos caminos con pendiente (no muy fuerte). Si el día es caluroso, resulta extenuante

De vuelta a Corinto, nos acercamos un instante al templo de Apolo

Definitivamente, es una visita que merece la pena

This is a day trip from the vicinity of Athens to Corinth, to visit the Corinth Canal and the ruins of the fortress of Akrocorinth. If you have a car, it is an easy trip to one of the most beautiful places you can visit about 100-110 kilometers from Athens

The Corinth Canal is a great hydraulic work built to connect the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea. Today it is almost reserved for the use of tourist boats. It consists of a deep and narrow cut in the earth, very curious. It is frequent that there are collapses of the walls and that the passage of ships is interrupted. There is a typical tourist viewing point but we found another better spot, with no one there, and it has a beautiful abandoned railroad bridge and an old WWII German machine gun nest. Next we went to the bridge on the west side. It is not very interesting but it is curious because it is a submersible bridge

But the jewel of the day is the fortress of Akrocorinth. There is a lot of literature about this place on the Internet so I am not going to describe this fortress here. Visiting this place entirely can be tiring because it is very extensive and there are many trails with slopes (not very steep). If the day is hot, it is exhausting.

On our way back to Corinth, we came close to the temple of Apollo

It is definitely worth a visit
