Itinerary description

This is a great scenic daytrip through the Connemara and south Mayo. Starts of from Galway and takes the coast road to Casla. Beaches between Galway and Barna (Silverstrand), at Furbo, at Spiddal and between Spiddal and Inverin. From Casla to Maam Cross gives a good impression of Connemara landscape with great views over surrounding lakes and mountain ranges. The Maam Cross to Leenaun road offers stunning views over the Maamturks mountain range to the west and the hills of Joycecountry to the east. The small mountain road to Finney takes you through Joycecountry with great mountains and lakes scenery. Along the shores of Lough Mask and then to the busy tourist town of Westport. The Clew Bay coast road towards Louisburgh takes you at the foot of Croagh Patrick. The coast road west from Louisburgh gives access to some of the finest beaches of Ireland. Especially White Strand and Silver Strand (where the road ends) are magnificent. The Delphi mountain road again offers some fantastic lakes and mountain scenery and especially great views upon Mweelrea the highest mountain of Connaught. Then the road takes you around Killary Harbour to Leenaun. From Leenaun the Maam Valley road back to Maam Cross. And then the N59 back to Galway.
