Itinerary description

6th and final day of our trip from Figueira da Foz (Verride) to Badajoz (?).

Started the day in the beautiful riverside village of Coruche. It was a mixfeeling starting. While Tiago was performing a stunning drone shot, in the beautiful "Nossa senhora do Castelo" church viewpoint, I was Facebooking a bit (instead of enjoying the view XD), and I realized that trains from Badajoz, composed by 1 small vehicle each, were all crowded by passengers full of huge bags, due to the sad situation of the Ukrainian refugees, as it is kind of an international connection with Spain.

Well, it was a little bit stressing situation, once in the morning my little brain doesn't work 100%. In the end it's an adventure, and we are very flexible with change of plans. We choose to change the route in the small village called Mora, where there are a nice route towards Évora.

At the end it was the best option, we left more space for those poor refugees who needid it way more, we shortened our trip in 1 day, as the next day it would be Rainy forecast day. We visited the beautiful city of Évora, UNESCO world heritage, which also has frequent fast train connection to Lisbon. The wind would start to blow sidely instead of head wind. I think the only downside was the distance pedaled in 1 day, once we had to perform a long 110 km day, but it was done full of joy.

About the route itself, the first part of the day, between Coruche and Mora, we crossed long farm fields along the rivers, small hilly roads surrouded by Southern pine trees, small water dams used to irrigate fields, farms etc. We really enjoyed the piecefullness of the area.

Second part, between Mora And Évora, we ran it after the lunch, and after having purchased the train tickets for the next day.

Long time ago there was a railway between Mora and Évora, crossing 3 minicipalities, Mora, Arraiolos and Évora. At a certain year, there was European funding to become the railway into a Greenway. The first municipality deviated the money for other projects, which means we needed to use the highways. Even in a small piece where the old railway channel is clear, it's illegaly fenced by private properties. Sorry for the political unburden, it's something that really pieces me off.

After "Vale de Paio" station, the real Greenway started, and I have to say, ran in Spring time, it's one of the most stunning green ways I ever did. Really greenish landscapes, low density of population, and the arrival to Évora, amazing.

It was a breathtaking trip, really glad we did it.
