The northernmost half of the Great Glen Way contains all the difficulties of the entire tour, following the entire lake of Loch Ness with repeated climbs, endless paths and isolated environments: immediately after Fort Augustus the first steep climbs (first Blairconard on asphalt and then a steep sheep track in the woods) give access to the easy dirt road that hosts the crossroads between the panoramic "high route" and the simpler "low route", a shortcut that reaches Invermoriston with reduced height differences.
