Chile/Argentina 2024-Carretera Austral-etapa 012 Cerro Castillo - camping Doña Dora

We leave Villa Cerro Castillo with the first 12 kilometers of asphalt. At the 12-kilometer mark, the asphalt ends and the gravel road in very poor condition begins, with many bumps that make progress slow and difficult, and an uphill incline. The landscapes, both from the viewpoint of the Castillo mountain range and from the spectacular Ibáñez River, are as incredible as ever. Despite the gentle but continuous headwind.

The air is cold in the early morning hours, although it is evident that the sun will soon begin to warm up. After leaving the Ibáñez River valley, we encounter a small mountain pass to reach the Murta River valley, where the road improves significantly: it becomes compact, without loose stones or potholes. Then, a long and pleasant descent awaits us. Finally, we arrive at the magnificent camping site of Doña Dora, where we stay.

Salimos de Villa Cerro Castillo con los primeros 12 kilómetros de asfalto. Al llegar a los 12 kilómetros, el asfalto termina y el camino de ripio en muy mal estado comienza, con muchas irregularidades que dificultan y ralentizan el avance, además de la inclinación ascendente. Los paisajes, tanto desde el mirador de la cordillera del Castillo como desde el espectacular río Ibáñez, son como siempre increíbles. A pesar del suave viento en contra que nos acompaña constantemente.

El aire es frío en las primeras horas de la mañana, aunque se percibe que el sol comenzará a calentar pronto. Después de salir del valle del río Ibáñez, nos enfrentamos a un pequeño puerto para llegar al valle del río Murta, donde el camino mejora notablemente: se compacta, sin piedras sueltas ni baches. A continuación, nos espera una larga y agradable bajada. Finalmente, llegamos al magnífico camping de Doña Dora, donde nos alojamos.
