Chile/Argentina 2024-Carretera Austral-etapa 02 Contao- Hornopiren

After a restful sleep in Contao, a small fishing village that clings to the coast like a secret refuge, we are advised, due to the beauty of the landscape, to travel along the coast along the W-609 to Hornopirén, although the mileage information was mistaken. We hit the road along a very well paved road, immersing ourselves in a world of natural beauty that meanders, giving us impressive views of the Pacific Ocean that extends as far as the eye can see.
As we advance, the beauty of the sea accompanies us, showing us the imposing force of nature. At every turn, we are surprised by new panoramic views: virgin beaches bathed by crystalline waves, solitary lighthouses that watch over the coast and salmon and mussel farms that are called “Choros” here.
The road has some steep climbs and dizzying descents that challenge our resistance and skill on the bicycle, especially from Rolecha where the gravel begins in very poor condition, making the route complicated due to very loose stones. However, each effort is rewarded with the feeling of freedom that is only found in the midst of wild nature.
Along the way, we find small fishing villages where time seems to have stopped. We stopped to eat at the Hualaihué Customs Fair and its inhabitants welcomed us with the typical warmth of Patagonia. We savor local delicacies, recharging energy to continue our journey.
Finally, we connect with road 7 (Carretera Austral), and after an end with steep slopes we arrive at Hornopirén, a hidden treasure at the foot of the imposing volcanoes of the Andes Mountains.

Después de un sueño reparador en Contao, pequeño pueblo de pescadores que se aferra a la costa como un refugio secreto,nos aconsejan, por la belleza del paisaje, a recorrer la costa por la W-609 hasta Hornopirén ,aunque el dato de kilometraje fue equivocado. Nos lanzamos a la ruta por una carretera muy bien asfaltada sumergiéndonos en un mundo de belleza natural que serpentea regalándonos vistas impresionantes del océano Pacífico que se extiende hasta donde alcanza la vista.
A medida que avanzamos, la belleza del mar nos acompaña mostrándonos la fuerza imponente de la naturaleza. En cada curva, nos sorprendemos con nuevas panorámicas: playas vírgenes bañadas por olas cristalinas, faros solitarios que vigilan la costa y piscifactorías de salmón y mejillones que aquí les llaman “Choros”.
El camino tiene algunas subidas empinadas y descensos vertiginosos que desafían nuestra resistencia y habilidad en la bicicleta, sobre todo a partir de Rolecha donde comienza el ripio en muy mal estado convirtiendo la ruta en complicada debido a piedras muy sueltas . Sin embargo, cada esfuerzo se ve recompensado con la sensación de libertad que solo se encuentra en medio de la naturaleza salvaje.
A lo largo del camino, nos encontramos con pequeñas aldeas pesqueras donde el tiempo parece haberse detenido.Paramos a comer en la Feria Costumbrista de Hualaihué Puerto y sus habitantes nos reciben con la calidez típica de la Patagonia. Saboreamos delicias locales,recargando energías para continuar nuestra travesía.
Finalmente, enlazamos con la 7 (carretera Austral),y tras un final con fuertes pendientes llegamos a Hornopirén, un tesoro escondido al pie de los imponentes volcanes de la Cordillera de los Andes.
