Itinerary description

In this video we will take you through the first 5 days of our Camino de Santiago, from Roncesvalles to Belorado, crossing the Spanish communities of Navarra, La Rioja and the very beggining of Castilla y León.

The path between Roncesvalles and Pamplona was really really scenic, however, very techinal at some parts. Because of that, we found ourselves struggling to cross some rocky parts, loosing loads of precious time in the short winter days.
After a while we just took the road, so we could arrive to Pamplona in decent hours.

Next day we pedaled from Pamplona to Estella, crossing the “monte del Perdón” mountain, with very nice views over Pamplona and Navarra countryside. The wildcamping night at Estella was very chilly, with the temperatures reaching negative values.

In order to fight those low temperatures, next day was blessed with a free wine fontain, which we could not resiste off course 
From there to Logroño, the day was fluid, we reencountered a bike tourist from Iceland that we had met days before in Navarra.

From Logroño to Santo Domingo de la Calzada we took a lot of rain, which in the end was the best part of the day, once me and António were totally protected against the rain, you can´t image how funny it was to ride with tones of water falling on us (not being ironic). Also, we could see the famous Rioja wineyards.

In Santo Domingo de la Calzada we stayed in one of the most famous pilgrims shelter of all network, which in the end, at least for me, was normal. I actually ended up the night sleeping at the kitchen, because of the snorers xD, but yeah, not the shelter fault, and in the end I could even have a nice rest, in a funny place.

The next day started in Santo Domingo really sun shinny. In that day we crossed the called “Burgalesa Riojana” area, which in conversation with a local ancient, we found out that the limit areas of Castilla y León (Being Burgos the capital) region were part of Rioja kingdom some centuries ago. Really curious data and experiences that became our route richer. In my opinion, the best Wikipedia we could ask for.

From there, we finished this 1st part on the base of “Montes de Oca” Oca, mountains, which were really funny to cross, do not loose the next episode :D
