Long day on dirt roads. The route I had identified crossed the lake dam and continued west to join the C24 road towards Nauchas, my original destination. Arrived at the dam I found a closed gate complete with chain and padlock and a guardian who did not want to let me pass. No permission was all he could say... I had to return to Reoboth, go south on the B1 for a few kms and take the C24 from the start with a steep climb in the middle of a hot and fly filled glen. About 20 km more than expected. Then for the whole day it was a slight but continuous climb on a smooth dirt road, except for some sections of washboard, the diabolical bumps... Around 17:00 I had enough and was looking for a place to pitch the tent (the roads in Namibia almost all have nets on the sides that protect them from animals or fence them off from private property so finding a place to put the tent hidden from view is difficult) when a pick up driven by a white man arrived. The first machine in hours. The guy, Peter, that's how he introduced himself, was very nice. He offered me some water and told me that he owned a guest farm which was 7km after Nauchas. Practically 35/40 km from where we were. He told me that if I wanted he would wait for me even if I arrived at night and that he would prepare me some food. The proposition was tempting. I thought for a minute and the idea of arriving somewhere with a shower, bed and hot meal made me decide to continue. Peter left with his car full of various materials and I resumed pedaling. I found rain, wind against, some uphill but in the end, around 21:15, in total darkness, I arrived at the farm. Nauchas was the only settlement I came across after Reoboth. A dozen houses scattered in the middle of nowhere. At the farm they treated me very well at very reasonable costs.
