TOUR OF SLOVENIA AND CROATIA

This is a tour to Slovenia and part of Croatia. You make a round trip to Slovenia, clockwise, starting to climb Tatra Alpen mountains, heading south west to Lubjliana, Croatia and from Zagreb returning to Slovenia and Trieste, the start point.
Slovenia has many bike lines and culture of cycling. Is like a little Austrish or Suisse, while croatia is more mediterranean and difficult to ride in ther roads.

SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE
The route starts from Trieste, in Italy, to go up north in Slovenia, following up the Soca River, and after Bovec to climb the Vrisic Mountain pass of 1611 m.

Vrsic

The way from the border to Bovec is with a smooth slope. The river is very crystal clear and villages are very beautiful.
From Bovec, slopes turn hard, to 14% with many hard curves. From Vrisc port, all down to Bled, which is a very beautiful city with his lake and his famous island inside.

Bled

From Bled you head to Lubjliana, first passing the beautiful village of Kranj and then Skofja Loka which is a worth detour. When you arrive in Lubjliana, you find plenty of bike lines, which make visit a cross the city very peaceful. Here in Lubjliana you can visit the castle and the very center, which is paceful with his canals.

Lubjliana

After visiting Lubjliana and his castle, then the route turns to Novo Mesto and direct to Croatia (Zagreb). In Croatia, roads are more difficult to ride, but once in Zagreb, he city is vively and you can visit many parts of it. Becareful with the traffic to get into Zagreb.

Zagreb

The trip then goes to Karlovac, with still many signs of the former 90’s war, and return to Slovenia, through very quiet secondary roads, sometimes not paved. Postojna with the caves and finally return to Trieste.

WHICH BIKE
The better is a trekking bike. Almost all the way is paved, but there are a pair of roads that turn non paved (but good) for a few kilometers.

WHEN TO GO
Best time is late spring or summer. Summer can be hot, but in the mountains is quite suportable.

HOW TO GET THERE
Yo can arrive to Trieste with plane, motorway, trains or ferry.

WHERE TO STAY
We stayed at little hotels and pensions. We also stayed in bed & breakfast, which is quite common in the country. Confortable anb with gentle people.

DIFFICULTIES
The harder difficulty is the Vrsic climb. The port is about 1600 meters and has slopes of 14%. All the way from Trieste is uphill, following the river, but after Bovec starts the autentic port. From the top of Tatra mountains all is down till Lubjliana. Traffic in Sloevenia is very quiet and polite. In Croatia, traffic is crazy and quite dangerous. Fast roads are narrow. Be careful.

    Atentamente.

Hola, ens recomanaries si tenim pocs dies d'aprofundir mes a Eslovenia en comptes d'anar a Croacia?

Si. Croacia es mes complicat pels cotxes. Eslovenia es com una petita Suidsa1
