WCRVBB-21-ELBERADWEG - STAGE 10 -Decin-Melnik 100 km
Esta es la décima etapa de la ruta del Elba (Elberadweg), que parte de Decin ya en tierras de la república Checa, para finalizar en Melnik, a 60 km ya de Praga.
En una primera parte, la etapa acaba de atravesar la puerta Bohemia, entre montes, y usando un flamante carril bici que los checos estan construyendo al lado del río Elba.
A partir de Litomerice, nos desviamos para visitar Terezin y el recuerdo de los campos de concentración y gethos de la segunda guerra mundial, para acabar por carreteras secundarias al lado del río Elba hasta Melnik, donde el Vltava se une al Elba.

STAGE DESCRIPTION
We leave Decin and we follow a quiet road, but in a few km we found the paved bike line that is being constructed along the Elberadweg in Czech Republic.
The river now is more narrow, and we pass through little villages (with some interesting churches or castles) and finally Usti Nad Labem, the biggest city in the zone.

We are crossing still the Porta Bohemia, between mountains and the river, but the way is usually flat. Just few km after Usti Nad Labem, we pass under Stresow Castle, just up a hill over the path. Just in this place we found a Stresov dam, with a hidroelectric power station and a huge sluice.

In a few kilometers, we exit Porta Bohemia and we found Litomerice, a charming city with a beautiful and vively central square with many monuments to visit (like churches, bell tower, ...). You can climb to the bell tower to get entirely views of the city.

Now we leave for a while the Eberadweg and we head to Terezin, where we can visit some of the horrour monuments to the WWII getho and concentration camp. In fact, we can visit the center of the city, which was a getto, and the crematorium.
And finally we can visit the Terezin Memorial, the small fortress converted into a huge concentration camp.

In a few kilometers we rejoin the river and we head now to Rounidce Nad Labem, little city where you can visit the castle. The rest of the stage is in secondary roads and sometimes cycle path near the river. But beware because some parts are non paved and not good surface.
We pass a Nuclear power Utility and finally we reach Melnik, where the Vltava river joins the Elba. We are only 60 km far from Prague, and we will quit the river Elba to follow the Vltava in next stage.

POINTS OF INTEREST
   - Usti Nad Labem. Big city.
   - Litomerice and his main square.
   - Rounidce and his castle.
   - Getho of Terezin.
   - Crematorium and jewish cementery of Terezin.
   - Terezin Memorial concentration camp.

DESTINATION POINT
Melnik is a pintoresque city next to the confluence Elva-Vltava, with the impressive castle skyline as main sight. We stayed well at Hana Pension, not far from the center, where is worth visit the main square with fine restaurants and then the Castle and Jungman gardens.
In the main Square there is a well and a big fountain, and from here you can visit the underground well, with many meters under the city. From Petra Palva Gothic Church you get the terrace with magnificient views to the river confluence.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
You can follow all the the time the Elberadweg next to the river and not cross Terezin. You can also avoid some non paved and bad surfaced parts of the route taking some secondary roads.
