WCRVBB-21-ELBERADWEG - STAGE 09 -Dresden-Decin 78 km
La novena etapa de la ruta del Elba (Elberadweg) discurre entre Dresden a Decin, pasando ya a territoriode la república Checa. Después de varios kilómetros por carril bici al lado del río, con ingentes cantidades de ciclistas, patinadores y paseantes de un sábado cualquiera de verano, nos adentramos en la puerta Bohemia, y tras pasar por Pirna y por debajo del impresionante acantilado con el colgante puente Bastei lleno de turistas que lo cruzan y asoman por las impresionantes terrazas naturales sobre el río que forman sus rocas.
La etapa continua hasta llegar a la frontera Checa (frontera por decir algo pues en ella no hay nada) donde no se albiran cambios exceptuando que a partir de ahí se verá mucha menos gente haciendo rutas y deporte por los carriles bici.
Finalmente llegamos a Decin, final de etapa. Ciudad tranquila y con algún punto de interés y visita en el centro.

STAGE DESCRIPTION
After a lively night spent in Dresden, with many late concerts and tourists in bars and restaurants, we found a very pleasant surprise next saturaday morning. The cycle way on the river, well paved, offers us a very beautiful spectacle. Thousands of people biking, walking, skating, ... on the bike path next to the river towards Czech Republic. This panorama will fall away the farther you go, but it will not stop untill the border. We found markets near the river, music concentrations on the bridges over the river, and cyclists and cyclists.

The landscape turns very beautiful. The way is flat, but it turns more and more gorgeous between mountains. The sun splendid and many vapour boats (in Mississipi Style) bringing tourists along the river. Marvelous.

After many kilometers we reach Pirna, interesting city that is worth a visit with a maket square full of restaurants an a pedestrian street with many shops. After that, the way turns a bit hilly and goes sometimes into the forest.
Pavement of the road is good and landscape of the Porta Bohemia incredible.

We pass then in the forest, with a hilly cycle road, and finally on the left, on the other side of the river, appears the cliffs of Bastei, with thousand of tourists on the rocks and on the famous bridge build only for visiting the rocky formations.

Down Bastei, at Rathen, you have a pleasant place with restaurants, souvenir shops and a splendid garden next to the river, where you can take a rest watching the Vapour boats (at Mississippi Style) stoping and going out the little harbour on the other bank of the river.

We continue the route, and now we are aproaching the Czech Republic border and the path turns more solitary. In Koningstein we pass under an impressive castle set up on a rocky hill, and from here we have to take a ferry to the other side of the river for a few kilometers.
After that we return to the other side of the river with a bridge, just a few kilometers to the frontier border. There we find nothing than 4 bollards and a flag.

He have only a few kilomters in the flat way between mountains and next to the river, untill we reach Decin, with a pintoresc bridge to cross the river and a huge castle on a small hill next to the waters.

POINTS OF INTEREST
   - Blue Bridge than crosses the river. We found it full of concerts and people on it.
   - Pirna city.
   - Bastei mountains and bridge.
   - German in Small and restaurants at Rathen, below Bastei.
   - Vapour Boats.
   - Koningstein Castle.
   - Czech republic border.

DESTINATION POINT
Decin is a quite and small city next to the river. In fact the first city in Czech republic. It has an interesting center with a pintoresc street with arcades that leads to the castel, with excellents views of the river. We found interesting also the Decin Namesti (main square) with some restaurants.

In Decin we stayed at Kokanda hotel, a small hotel with excellent restaurant next to the river and 1 km far from the very center.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
There aren't many alteranative routes. If you are brave and not tired, you can climb to Bastei and Koningstein castle, avoiding part of the flat way next to the river.
