WCRVBB-19-Biking Low Danube - STAGE 08 - Zimnicea-Ruse 76 km

Etapa 8 de la Ruta que discurre por el bajo Danubio de Belgrado a Constanta, durante 1017 km hasta el Mar Negro en 10 etapas. Etapa que va de Zimnicea a Ruse abandonando Rumania y entrando ya de nuevo en Bulgaria. Los pueblos del inicio de la etapa son todavía territorio gitano. Tras los 130 km del día anterior, ahora tenemos una etapa más corta, un poco de descansito antes de las dos últimas larguísimas etapas. Después de varios kilómetros lejos del Danubio por carreteras a veces con muchos de agujeros, nos acercamos a Giurgiu, última ciudad romana antes de cruzar el puente (único actualmente entre Rumania y Bulgaria). El cruce del puente es bastante peligroso pero se puede hacer en bicicleta. Y el destino vuelve a ser Bulgaria.

STAGE DESCRIPTION
Last stage in gypsy territory in Romania. "Only" 76 km, after the big stage of the precedent day. We pass villages like the two days before. Houses around the main road and nothing more. The road is paved but not very good, with many holes in the pavement. We are aproaching now to the Danube, and we see Ruse on the other side of the Danube. But we have to go to Giurgiu to cross the unique bridge in 700 km over the frontier Bulgaro-Romanian. Giurgiu is quite modern, but with not many interesting things to see. The crossing of the border with the bridge is a little dangerous. Buses and big lorries over the crowded road not very wide. But the bikes are allowed to cross. So we arrive with no problem to Ruse, now in Bulgaria. The river here is very wide and impressive.

   - Giurgiu with his cathedral.
   - Bridge over the wide Danube.

DESTINATION POINT
Ruse is a very modern city with a very interesting peatonal center. A fountain, a pedestrian street with many restaurant, shops and bars are the main atractions. The Riverside park is quite interesting to take a stroll next to the river. It has also other parks, the Holy Church, Battenberg Square, and other also intersting places to visit. Hotel Danube is a very interesting option if you can take good price with booking.com.
