Para los españoles, este plan no es muy típico y vale muchísimo la pena.
Para alquilar bicis se puede hacer online o en el mismo sitio. Se llama, Mullingar bike hire. 20 euros adultos 10 euros niños.

Descripción:
El canal comenzó a construirse en 1790. Durante 3 décadas fue el principal medio de transporte para cargamentos y pasajeros en la zona interior de Irlanda. En 1845 la Midlands Great Western Railway Company se hace cargo del canal y oficialmente lo cierra a la navegación en 1961.
A día de hoy se ha habilitado y restaurado para que se puede seguir navegando y para los amantes del ciclismo, senderistas o corredores puedan transitar por sus márgenes.
La aventura la empezamos en Mullingar, con pocas esperanzas de poder hacer nada ya que dan lluvias durante todo el día. Llegamos a las 12h y casi no llueve. El hombre nos dice que puede que podamos pedalear durante unas horas sin casi lluvia, así que alquilamos 2 bicis para adultos y otra para un niño de 8 años y a tirar millas. El camino es fácil, seguir a la vera del canal hasta que nos cansemos y darnos la vuelta. El camino está muy bien indicado, tanto en en qué sentido ir como en el número de kms. Las vistas son muy típicas de Irlanda, praderas verdes, vacas pastando y de vez en cuando cruzando nos con la Garza Heron, que quien no la conozca es un pájaro majestuoso que tiene una envergadura impresionante.
El recorrido no tiene prácticamente desnivel, ideal para todos los niveles y para disfrutar de la pareja , los niños o de la compañía de los amigos.
Me entra la risa recordar que cada 30 minutos entraba una nube negra y caía la de Dios. Debajo de un puente o de un árbol aguantamos el chaparrón y luego paraba y tirabamos para delante...y no se iba nada mal....la recompensa fue llegar al pueblo de Ballynacarrigy, que parece que no tiene nada pero cuando vas a la calle principal y ves helados y cafés y patatas fritas , te alegra la vida y te da las fuerzas necesarias para volver por donde has venido.

Today it has been enabled and restored so that you can continue browsing and for lovers of cycling, hikers or runners can travel along its banks.
We started the adventure in Mullingar, with little hope of being able to do anything since it rains all day. We arrived at 12 noon and it hardly rained. The man tells us that we might be able to ride for a few hours with almost no rain, so we rent 2 bikes for adults and one for an 8-year-old and go miles. The path is easy, continue along the side of the canal until we get tired and turn around. The path is very well indicated, both in which direction to go and in the number of kms. The views are very typical of Ireland, green meadows, cows grazing and from time to time we come across the Heron Heron, who who does not know it is a majestic bird that has an impressive wingspan.
The route has practically no unevenness, ideal for all levels and to enjoy with your partner, children or the company of friends.
It makes me laugh to remember that every 30 minutes a black cloud entered and God's cloud fell. Under a bridge or a tree we endured the downpour and then it stopped and we pushed forward...and it wasn't bad at all....the reward was arriving at the town of Ballynacarrigy, which seems to have nothing but when you go to the main street and see ice creams and coffees and chips, it makes your life happy and gives you the strength to go back the way you came.
