Stavrodromi loop, Achaea 20130302

Achaea loop from Stravrodromi.

0,0km - Stravrodromi. The village is easily accesible from Patras following road 111 (old road Patras-Tripolis), about 40min drive from the city center. We left the car on the parking in front of the church, next to local school. First 3km are a bit uphills until crossroads. Route continues left from here in directions to Kalfas for another 8km.

11,4km - Kalfas, river. After passing the village, there is a small bridge over the river (see photo) where we made first quick stop. From this point a very steep climb starts for another 1,5km until enterance of Apidoula.

13,1km - Apidoula. Just before the village, route turns right to dirt road (the only part with dirt road in entire route). Dirt road ends in about 2,5km where nice and wide asphalt begins to continue like that to the Pineiou lake (lowest point of the route).

19,1km - Pineiou lake. Route passes the bridge and starts long steep climbs towards Portes.

24,3km - Crossroads near Portes. We took a left turn (right goes to the village) and continued north around the hill until Neochori.

35,7km - Neochori. Sharp turn right to go south to complete the route. Fairly flat for first 5km and later steep climb to Roupakia.

45,9km - Roupakia. Climb continues a bit more after the village to reach highest point of the route (408m). From there, only down back to Stavrodromi.

52,2km - Stavrodromi - finito :-D

Nice and not very demanding loop in southern Achaea. Very nice views to the east to Erymanthos mountains still with some snow on the highest peaks. Level moderate to few steeper climbs and overall distance.
