Itinerary description
This track looks harder than it is. The Ghat road's ascent starts some 3 km after Aliyar, and is typically 6% (i.e. a little steeper than Nelliyampathy). At hairpin bend #9 there is a good view point: Loam's View - named after the British engineer planning this road. A few hairpin bends later, you reach the village of xy at an elevation of some 900 m. Here are some restaurants, and I saw a sign post to a guest house. Later on, the road rises upto some 1150 m where you reach the Waterfall Estate. After some minor up and down, the last ascent leads you upto ca. 1440 m. There is a small Hindu temple near the curve on the pass height (but nothing to tell you that you have reached the highest point of your way). From there it is still some 12 km down to Valparai.
There are a few "Home Stays" in town, and some bungalows for rent in the estates nearby. St. Georges Homestay was rather dirty - like other homestays. I do not know which place to recommend.
