Itinerary description

The way from Nelliyampathy to Valparai is too long for a day tour, hence I decided for a stop-over in Aliyar.
From Nelliyampathy follow the road down to Nemmara (there is an ATM of HDFC bank), and then along the highway to Pollachi. I left that highway already near Kollangoda and headed south-east, but I recommend not to follow my track here: the dirt road ended at an irrigation channel, and I had to push - and sometimes carry - my bike along a small foot path till I reached an other dirt road again. Better stay on the highway for a couple of km more, and then turn right to Chuliyar dam (or turn farther east/left just before Viruthi), where you will join my track. It follows normal country roads, with a minor ascent. You will enjoy the Nelliyampathy mountains to your right, and also see a singular mountain with a temple (?) on its top (actually there is one more such mountains in the surroundings, as will be seen from the Ghat road). Perhaps those mountains inmidst the plains are worth another day of exploration.
In Vettaikaranpudur turn left towards Pollachi, in Anamalai right to Kottur, and cross the town towards Aliyar.
In Aliyar, I found Sri Balaji lodge only, which is a very simple hotel, but good enough for a night. For food, you have to go back to the village.
