Itinerary description
Cycling route following the
Ecopista de Corgo, a former railway track, offering breathtaking views across valleys and unique insights into remote village life.
The route starts at a picnic spot in Vidago providing a water source and some bike repair tools. Follow the route up into the hills and enjoy the scenery along the way. You will pass by Oura, Pedras Salgadas, and Vila Pouca de Aguiar, where you can restock supplies or take a break for refreshment. As you're proceeding, you will come across all those abandoned train stations and old rail infrastructure worth noting.
As of September 2021, not all parts of the route are paved, so bring a mountain, gravel or trekking bike to conquer those gravel and dirt bits.
The route is well signposted and self-explanatory, only when approaching Vila Real it can get a little confusing. Just hold on to the recorded route. In Vila Real, continue riding along the route a little more to take a look at the former train station.
This is day 2 of a multi day bikepacking trip which is highly recommended to do if you're an outdoor lover. You can rent a bike in Porto and take it on the bus as (packed as luggage) to Vidago, or even to Chaves if you fancy doing a longer trip.
