The best place we the locals know to recharge our batteries before a bike tour. Enjoy the views and imagine yourself, centuries ago, watching ships setting sailtowards distant lands with their cellars full of the main actor of this tour, cidre.

Zurriola Bridge

This bridge, built in 1915 to join the central district with Gros, is located at the mouth of the Urumea river, and it is famous because of its endurance of the hits of the waves. Every year, its lampposts act as little lighthouses, always looking towards the sea.

Santa Catalina Bridge

The oldest bridge in town has its name because of an hermitage, dedicated to this saint, which standed next to it until the XIXth century. This bridge has experienced several transformations throughout history, and has seen hundreds of ships passing through its arcs full with cider.

Urumea River

One of the main protagonists of this tour, we will ride alongside its banks that throughout centuries were filled with little docks, up to 16, that charged and discharged the precious cidre from the inside of the region towards the ships prepared to set sail towards new adventures.

Maria Cristina Bridge

Today, this is one of the most emblematics buildings in San Sebastian. It was inaugurated on San Sebastian's Day, the 20th January, in 1905 by queen Maria Cristina, bearing her name. It is one of the best examples of the art nouveau style in Donostia.

Loiola District

This district has always lived by the river banks. Today, it is a residential district where you can still experience the same vibe that you could find during the industrial growth of the 70's.

Washerwoman Sculpture

One of the most common jobs in the river banks for our past generations was the one of the washerwoman. We could watch woman cleaning clothes every single morning on the edges of the Urumea river. In this square, we honour every single one of them with this beautiful sculpture.

Txomin Enea Neighbourhood

In the district of Txomin Enea, which owes its name to one of the baserris (traditional basque house) located in this place, we can have a different look of the river. From the 16 river harbours that the Urumea river used to have, here we could find one of the busiest, as from here set sail what we could call the first public transportations system in San Sebastian, the "gabarras" that took their passengers into the city.

Martutene District

In this neighbourhood, nowadays a residential one, we could find back in the day several baserris and some little palaces at the beginning of the XXth century. Back in the day, when tourism was in full force, one of the most popular tours was the one through the river, which gave this district a big growth with a great casino and a small amusement park.

In this moment of the tour, if we come close to the river we see a replica of the small river docks that back in the day picked up the cider to transport it to the cities and the harbors.
