Itinerary description

This is one of the route possibilities to go from the edge of Ljubljana to the campsite west of Lake Bohinj.
I have set the difficulty to high because there are many kilometers and because at the end there is a fairly hard climb. But it has no technical difficulties, it can be done with any bike, it is mostly asphalt route, except for a part at the end that is a dirt track but in perfect condition for both bikes and cars.
I made the trip in one section, I stayed in the campsite for three nights (highly recommended place by the way) doing walks in the area, and then the return which is much more grateful. The arrival campsite is huge, has many services, adjoins the lake, which is beautiful and it is well worth going for a swim. I recommend calling beforehand to ask if there is room because at least in summer it fills up.

I make this description a posteriori, after a few weeks, from what I remember.
We could divide the path into four parts:

The first would be the exit from Ljubljana, which was a bit difficult for me because you have to go around a bit and without first having a track, it has some hidden path (in one part, for example, you have to go through the side of a house where there are a little bridge that crosses a small river, super hidden and that doesn't really look like a road). Since you can't get on the bike route in that area, you have to go through towns and the road is a bit twisted, in the sense that it goes round and round. I messed up a couple of times, so if you see a detour going back and forth, ignore it! sorry about that!
It is a flat and short part, the only difficulty is not to get lost (or lose patience!).

The second part would be from the outskirts, once you get to the route, and up to more or less half. It is a beautiful road that goes through towns and fields, with mountains in the background and beautiful views. It has a moderate climb, accentuated at the end, but very manageable. Approximately at km 43 of my track, you enter a small and very pretty town, which shows you a terrible zigzag climb... luckily what you see is not the path I followed... but in any case, nothing takes away from us the climb below.
From this point on, the route changes quite a bit, so I recommend making a rest cut, taking advantage of the fact that it is halfway, and taking the following with great patience. I have waited to be at the highest point of the trail to eat, take a nap, and then continue effortlessly to the end... but this is also a good place to do it. There are several meadows and very nice corners to be, the view is beautiful and if you need something, the people are very friendly and it is easy to interact (in English at least haha).

The third part is a very steep climb (also known as: "damn death climb, why didn't I rent a car and stay in Trieste sunbathing and scratching my fig") that seems to have no end, but has moments with very nice views, paths with beautiful forests, very quiet and pleasant.
There are about 600m of unevenness in approx 10km of road. Most of it is dirt road but in very good condition (at least when I went, despite some rains, it was dry and well cared for).
The only thing I can say is, be patient, little by little, with light changes on the bike and enjoying what you can. If I could, you too!

The last part is almost a divine gift: it is subdivided into A: a very steep descent that rests the whole body, and then B: a very flat and quite beautiful path, which connects the town of Bohinj with its lagoon and reaches the camping.
In the town there are supermarkets, bars and restaurants, it is quite the reference of the whole area I think, and it is a good place to buy food if you are going to spend several days later (although they sell a lot of things at the campsite). Normally there are a lot of people, a lot of movement of cars and various activities.
All the remaining path is super nice, bordering the lake that is quite long, and serves almost as a final stretch after so much killer ascent, and the rest of the descent, which is not pedaled.

Upon arrival, the entrance to the campsite is a bit past the entire camping area and separating us from the lake. There is a huge reception and the people are super friendly: they charge your phone for free, there is Wi-Fi, many huge bathrooms with spectacular and restorative showers, wooden tables to eat near the food sales area, restaurant, and some stalls where each day they do different things (vegetable market, bakery, etc).
There are plenty of hikes in the area to do, which can take you up to Triglav, the highest (and iconic) mountain in Slovenia, and take you through the Julian Alps, which have amazing (really amazing) views over the lake and other valleys, but with intense climbs (aka "didn't I learn anything from the damn bike climb the other day and now I'm struggling with this damn route, why can I never just go on vacation to the beach").
I leave you a track that I did walking, joining two routes to make it circulate, in case you want to feed the adventurous spirit (masochist) in the area (1200m of accumulated difference in altitude cagoentot!!):

You can also go around the lake, walk about 12km (very approximately) flat and with several corners to lie down to eat something, and swim in the lake.
There are many possibilities to rent kayaks, sups, and even take a ride on a collective boat.

All the way, both the way and the return, I was touched by clouds and some drops, and the truth was appreciated. If you go in summer and it's full sun, it can be quite hard, because more than half of it is open and without shadows. Do not forget to bring a lot of water, more than usual.

If they survive all this, the return to Ljubljana is much more grateful: the climb is a little less, more progressive, and at the beginning of the trip, so we make it fresher... and then everything is downhill until the end, first strong, then soft, but it shows. I leave you the track of the return, although I did not spend much to describe it:

Entering the city at the end, again it's chaos, and we also get sad because we are no longer in a beautiful lake, but we just have to think about the next path we will take and have a liter beer, very cold, more than deserved ;)
If you do this route, or any variant, comment on it... maybe the next time you go, try it!
