Ottawa Marathon (Hawthorne Ave (Pretoria Bridge)

The Pretoria Bridge is a table-lift bridge in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It crosses the Rideau Canal linking the Glebe and Centretown to Old Ottawa East. The bridge was built in 1915, replacing an earlier wooden swing bridge on Argyle Street just to the north. It is a vertical-lift bridge, meaning that the central portion of the bridge can be elevated to allow boats to pass underneath. Although built by the Strauss Bascule Bridge Company, the lift span is not a bascule type but a lift-type. In the late 1970s it was discovered that road salt had seriously damaged the bridge. Proposals were advanced to build a larger and higher bridge, but these were opposed by those who saw the bridge as a heritage structure. Eventually it was decided to rebuild the bridge almost exactly as it had been before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretoria_Bridge

Around the 7K marker for the half-marathon and the 9K for the marathon, runners turn off Fairmont Avenue onto Wellington Street West. Here, the crowds fill up: families and kids, young and old, and almost all onlookers are armed with horns, thunder sticks, or cowbells. Below the sound of cheering and drums is the percussion of sneakers hitting the pavement. https://www.runottawa.ca/run-wellington-west-just-around-the-corner

Description of Historic Place The Surveys and Mapping Building, located in a campus-like setting in Ottawa, is the largest building at the Booth Street Complex, also know as the National Resources Canada (NRCan) complex. The steel-frame building designed in the International Style is composed of a tall, multistoried block, a library wing, an office wing and an intersecting stairwell block. The entrance is found within the multistoried block, framed by the freestanding columns that support the floors above. The smooth walls, clad in brick veneer, feature recessed bands of windows with continuous polished stone sills and ‘brise-soleils’. These emphasize the abstract and horizontal character of the building’s elevations. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.

The Chaudière Bridge (French: Pont de la Chaudière) crosses the Ottawa River about 1 km (0.6 mi) west of Parliament Hill, joining the communities of Gatineau, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario, linking Rue Eddy in the Hull sector of Gatineau and Booth Street in Ottawa. The bridge is one portion of multiple spans constituting the Chaudière Crossing, which still contain portions of the first bridge linking Ottawa with Hull dating back to the time of Colonel By in the 1820s. The bridge passes through the E.B. Eddy Company complex adjacent to the Chaudière Falls, from which the bridge gets its name.

Ottawa Marathon (Boul. Alexandre-Taché - Gatineau, QC)

Boulevard Alexandre-Taché is an east-west road located in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. It is named in honour of former member for the Hull electoral district, Alexandre Taché, who served for 15 years with the Union Nationale when the political party was in power under the leadership of Maurice Duplessis. The road starts at the western limits of the Hull sector with Aylmer just west of Boulevard Saint-Raymond south of the Manoir des Trembles community. (West of that point, the roadway is known as Chemin d'Aylmer) It travels eastward through the neighbourhoods of Val-Tétrault and Saint-Jean-Bosco while it passes by the southern edge of Gatineau Park, where its parkway begins. It ends at the entrance of the Chaudière Bridge, in front of les Terrasses de la Chaudière office complex, where it becomes Rue Laurier. It is a very important route for commuters during rush hours, which frequently causes congestion, especially on the one-lane westbound section between the Université du Québec en Outaouais and Boulevard Saint-Joseph during the afternoon and near the Chaudière Bridge in the morning, as only one lane is available for regular vehicles eastbound.
