Itinerary description
This is an one direction bike ride between the train stations of Ostuni and Brindisi. As much as possible, it avoids the busy roads and follows the small tracks through the fields.
This is an alternative track for one of my earlier tracks Brindisi to Ostuni. There is some overlap, but mostly on different roads.
This one is longer and more suitable to be done on a mountain bike. A speed bike is not recommended as there are a few places with really bad asphalt. Due to the profile of this track, it's highly recommended to do this track in the indicated direction as all the climbing will be at the start of the track and you will get to enjoy long stretches of road where you can relax as gravity keeps you going.
The start of the track is the hardest part: From the train station, the track starts to climb quickly to get into Ostuni. You'll pass by the main square of Ostuni where you'll find multi cafes and bars for a short stop.
After that, it's a little bit more climbing, but soon after you leave town, it will be down hill for quite some time. There are several stretches where you don't need to paddle for a few kilometer at a time.
After 9 km, you leave the asphalted road for an unpaved road and you'll get a bit of a different road for a short while and go in the direction of Carovigno. However, this track doesn't pass through the town, so if you want to go there, you can easily add a small detour.
The part of the track to San Vito is quite easy in navigation and mostly downhill. Once in San Vito, the track follows small roads just to pass through the centre for you to stop at a cafe. When you leave San Vito, you'll pass by a Penny supermarket on the main road.
After San Vito, most of the track is through the open fields and frequently downhill, although you can expect a few river valleys to cross.
Around 37 km, you'll cross the main San Vito to Brindisi road to continue on less busy and more safe roads until you get close to Brindisi and need to pass the highway. You enter Brindisi from the Paradiso side and take the way to the centre. In the last kilometer before the train station, you'll pass a small supermarket and you will also pass by some cafes.
The end of the trail takes you to the back entrance of the Brindisi Train Station, where it's usually easier to park, in case you came by car.

Very nice trail. We did it in reverse which made it a little odd in the villages with one way streets.
We used e-bikes, rented from Hitch Bikes in Brindisi. An easy ride.
