Itinerary description
42km long greenway along the historic Midlands Great Western Railway - an Irish gauge (1,600 mm) railway operating between Galway and Dublin.
Athlone MGWR station opened in 1851. The line was closed in 1985 and the station for Athlone was transferred to the newly renovated Great Southern and Western Railway station, which had closed in 1927.
