The Loire Valley has been and remains a vital axis for communication and trade in France, playing a significant role in the development of French history, culture and science. Here, kings, artists, philosophers and scientists created and developed their ideas. The works and concepts from the Loire influenced literature, painting, architecture and many other forms of art and science. The landscape reveals many still-functioning forms of interaction between it and the people and environment they live in.
