La Parenzana was an old narrow-gauge railway that connected the city of Trieste to Buje and Poreč, built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1902. www.parenzana.it

The second day is the most beautiful stage but also more challenging as both a kilometer and a particularly rough ground.
It starts from Portorož, going downhill from the town, crosses a campsite and runs along the salt pans of Sicciole, which having time deserves a visit.
Once past the Portorož airport you find yourself facing a double border control (in times of more or less united Europe it also has a certain effect) the first carried out by the Slovenian police, the second by the Croatian one.
After crossing the border, climb steadily for a few kilometers with a splendid view from the top towards the salt pans and the Gulf of Portorož and Pirano.
It hovers around the hill and suddenly the bottom changes: from the well-beaten dirt road you pass to a gravel road with many sharp stones and moved the fear for the tires is so much but luckily row all smooth. Another danger is represented by pieces of glass (perhaps bottles thrown on the path from the nearby state road), this is perhaps the least beautiful and pleasant piece of the parenzana. Fortunately, after this stretch, in a few kilometers you reach the town of Buje. Here I recommend a break with a short visit to the city, we are about halfway through.
After the visit to Buje we continue to climb, the bottom is still loose but with fewer stones, in this stretch you will also cross the galleries, not very long but without lighting bring lights and flashlight because even the bottom is not compact.
After the climb to the height of the village Groznjan you start to go down and this is perhaps the most beautiful point of the entire journey, each meter opens a different view on the valleys with many countries to frame and then a lot of wood and wild nature all as said downhill that increases the pleasure! In a short time you arrive in the village of Levade.
The "official" track ends here as the destination is Motovun - out of the way of the parenzana - but it deserves the visit with a stop and overnight, since it is a lot high up but it is definitely worth it.
