Itinerary description
For this ride between Gould's Country and Falmouth I thought we would be pleasantly cruising. We glided most of the way down into St Helens where we dropped off a wallet at the Police Station. R had spotted it on the road near Gould's Country and I had stopped and picked it up along with various cards and notes that were strewn about the road and verge. Luckily it had a licence and I had been able to contact the owner by Facebook. He was very grateful and picked it up within an hour of us dropping it off. My thoughts of a pleasant cruise dissolved with the arrival of a strong southerly wind. This wind was to plague us for the rest of our trip. So we slogged it out to lovely little Falmouth where we had AirB&B'd a rustic little beach house for the night. Despite the weather which now included rain we found Falmouth a charming spot without shops or services. It was also the only place we stayed at that had an espresso coffee maker. We had a good night's sleep with the wind soughing through the cracks in the windows and doors. Only 280 metres of climb over the 52 kilometres but the wind more than made up for the lack of uphill.
