Itinerary description
-> General informations on day D00 starting in Pokhara Backpackers Hostel.
The plan today : Ranipauwa -> Lupra Pass -> Jomsom.
Take the jeep track going through Ranipauwa. At the exit of the village on your left there is a jeep parking. The dirt road is starting from here. Follow the sign "Lupra".
Good dirt road at the biginning. Then turn right to take the singletrack climbing to the first and second pass. You will have to push up and the trail is a bit tricky with a loaded bike.
The singletrack is alternating between flowy flatter sections and technical with small hairpin turns on loose gravel/sand. Very good on a mountain bike it gets difficult on a gravel bike, especially loaded.
If you are on a trekking bike you may have to walk a number of section quite high depending on your mtb skills.
Anyway the view are very nice and it os a big change from the mountain behind.
At the bottom you join the jeep track witch was VERY VERY windy and dusty in the afternoon...
I would not recommand on a trekking bike. Better suited to mountain bike, feasible on a full rigid with good tires.
Note : this trail does NOT go to Lupra village.
Note 2 : in the winter, everything was closed in Lupra (shops, restaurants...).
The following : we stopped from there because the road was in very very bad condition and strong face wind kicks in at noon with lots of dust... not so pleasant, we took the direct bus to Pokhara at 10:00 in Jomsom and 11:00 in Marpha for 1500NPR/person plus 500NPR/bike. Priced checked by phone call to the company in january 2023.
Update : seams like road conditions gets better from Tukuche, with hard packed gravel, but conditions change quickly in Nepal...
