Itinerary description
Although our destination for this day was Swansea we decided not to try and ride the whole way. The weather report was telling us of a 20 knot northerly in the morning turning to a 40 knot southerly in the afternoon. Fate would have it we were riding north in the morning and south in the afternoon so I rand the bus company and found much to our luck that a bus could pick us up at the highway at 1.05pm. So we resolved to ride into the northerly to get us to the highway where we would catch the bus. Although it was a bit damp the wind didn't seem to live up to the forecast and so the 27 kilometres back out to the highway was not so bad. We had allowed extra time for the journey and so arrived early. We passed the time at a little cafe called the Pondering Frog and I even had an ice cream. Our bus arrived on time and with front wheels removed to put the bikes into a trailer and headed off. By this time the weather had changed and it blew and rained quite hard from the south. The bus ride was terrifying to say the least and made us realise just how exposed we really were on this narrow shoulder-less highway with vehicles small and large zooming by. We arrived in Swansea where we had booked a caravan in a holiday park. Swansea is not a pretty place in bad weather. 255 metres of uphill over 29 kilometres.
