Itinerary description
Beautiful cycling route in the green heart of Holland.
Starting in Pijnacker South the route goes via the forest "Balijbos" to Buytenpark: a 60 acre grazing area which was built on a former landfill debris. The debris hills were covered with soil and turned into natural-looking hills with unique flora and fauna. Here is located a challenging MTB circuit of approximately 5.5 km length (see waypoint "MTB trail Zoetermeer"). The current route follows about 2.5 km from that MTB circuit but this can easily be omitted if you do this route on a normal touring bike. After the MTB circuit we climb via a narrow trail to the highest point of the Buytenpark with nice views on the surroundings (see waypoint "(panoramic) viewpoint")
The route continues to the Noordelijke Plassengebied, a natural area consisting of three lakes north of Zoetermeer.
Via Benthuizen and Moerkapelle we go to the Rottemeren; a versatile recreation area on the banks of the river Rotte.
The route goes back to Pijnacker through the greenhouse area of Bleiswijk and Noordeinde.
