This morning in Vukovar, a photo with Nikolay and his wife who hosted us and gave us two little sachets with their apricots; then visited memorial to the victims of the war, just outside Vukovar. Simple but intense atmosphere, due to a very effective orderly and symbolic realization. Perhaps also because we are full of images of repertoire and news, but these places give us a certain weight during the trip. Country road, various trucks that run but no danger to us, wind but not too annoying, drizzle but does not worry us. The Croatian-Serbian border passed without problems. The last 15/18 km of track along the Danube brought us to Novi Sad, another city with a recent tragic past but well restored, with the center completely restored. Meeting Serbian cyclist who speaks only Serbian and who accompanied us to the entrance of the track along the Danube difficult to track down. He precedes us in the city and we continue alone. Once in Novi Sad we are sitting on a bench in the central square to assess which hotel is more suitable for us. We ask and suggest that we do not go to the hotel inside the Petrovaradin fortress, as it is wonderful but too expensive. We are looking forward to the hotel Vojvodnia, which is right next to us. It is as old as the socialism that created it, gradually resettled, pretentious in the hall but still with a rancid stink. Very long corridors but it is still good, with an efficient receptionist, polite and available for bicycles, which are closed in the square inside an old newsstand of something. They say I'm safe, Boh !! Well-placed, large, plum-pink room with a view of the central square. Stage, this, which was resolved at 13:00 without problems. We will look out from the fortress of Petrovaradin, which is beyond the river about twenty minutes from the center. We have dinner at "Astal Saren, Mite Ruzica 4 in Novi Sad. Local suggested by Miky, a Serbian who worked in the past with other major Italian clothing companies. He was a very knowledgeable guy to know a lot about the world, with excellent Italian talk and who got his earnings in Italy and Serbia and that, after the last Balkan war, he moved from Croatia where he lived in Novi Sad where he time manages the excellent hostel "SOVA" of his property waiting for his son to decide to take his place and leave him, at his age, travel and do not think of anything else. Please tell us a restaurant where to eat typical dishes and we say goodbye. We eat a dish with an unrepeatable name with roasted beans and sausages served with boiled potatoes cut into slices and returned to the plate like polenta. We also have Kaimak and Urnebes cheeses. We ask for news on the stage of tomorrow but we do not receive convincing answers.
