Friday, August 16,
Departure from Kyleakin. End of Stage Cannich where we slept in a comfortable and cozy Bungalow.
We go through the new bridge, start of the stage by road, about 27 kms with a lot of traffic but that for the most part you can go through sidewalks or sidewalks. During this stretch, we passed through Dornie, where you can see the famous Eilean Donan Castle, where the first part of The Immortals was filmed. Finishing the Loch Duch, we must be careful not to pass a junction on the left where we took a path that leads to Glenn Afric, for me, the most spectacular stage of the entire trip.
The path runs through a beautiful valley, we circulate next to the river in some sections, the slightly rising track becomes bearable thanks to the wonderful environment, about 16 km easily cyclable. Then we come to the trap of the day, a climb pulling the bike about 2 hours, impossible to cycle as it ascends caracoleando by a narrow path.
You have to take it easy because the effort is worth it, the landscape and the views are incomparable.
Once crowned, you will arrive at a mountain lodge, and from here a slight but continuous descent begins that allows you to circulate the rest of the stage enjoying the landscapes. This route is virtually all cycle, but requires full attention, attention to the narrow passages, the ditches to save, ... it is very enjoyable.
The route is called and there is a lot of talk about the West Highland Way, but this part of Glen Afric is spectacular, intense, a luxury for the senses.
