Itinerary description
Day 3 of a bikepacking trip in North Sarawak using a Kona Sutra LTD with 47mm tyres and 30Tx10-42 gear. Wikiloc is limited to 25 waypoints, for more waypoints information just contact me.
Over 55km return from Ba'Kelalan to Tanjung Karya in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The road from Ba'Kelalan to the border with Indonesia is paved and going up until the border and then the road surface changes to rock-cobbled surface going down to the Indonesian Army office. This not an official border crossing and no visa will be issued in your passport. You will have to register in all border controls and leave your passport with the Indonesian immigration officer after the Indonesian Army HQ. The officer will give you a document to allow you to enter Indonesia that you have to handle back at your return when you get your passport back.
After the border climb the road is mainly flat with the difficulty of some muddy and some extremely muddy sections, especially after Long Bawan heading to Tanjing Karya. 2km after Longbawan, and once past all the mud, the road is excellent, wide and with a very well compacted and smooth road gravel. My intention was only to go to Tanjung Karya to visit a friend and didn't have more time to continue and explore where that road ended up, as it was really nice to ride it.
