Itinerary description
Our re-entry into Vietnam was shrouded in mist and cloud as we descended from the mountainous borderlands of Laos onto the flat coastal plains. The rain only got heavier and heavier as to made our way past increasingly flooded rice paddies towards the town of Vinh. In fact, the rain became so persistent that our intentions of catching the train from Vinh to Hue was interrupted by regional flooding and damage to the track! A rather uncomfortable night stuck in the station had us ready to leave the train idea behind us, and we ventured out into the inundated coastal landscape. With the rice paddies transformed into fishing grounds, we had no choice but to cycle our way to the touristic hotspot of Hue, regarded as the cultural centre of Vietnam.
