Bicycle tour, 10-day circular tour (by bike) to Transylvania, in the Carpathians of Romania, in August 2018.
- 63.40 km
- Average speed av: 12.6 km / h.
- Positive difference in level: 996 m.
- 80% asphalt and 20% bad / very bad track at the beginning of the route.
We slept at the "Mosorel Pension" in Magura.
We leave at 9:05 am.
Initially, we had a more or less gaze route from home. We wanted to leave Măgura by tracks until we went down to the valley. We had a little unknown on the planned route, where it looked like we might have to push the bike on foot for a long stretch.
The fact that Anna has slept badly, with "fine" cagarrines and that she ate very little for breakfast, makes us vary a little the planned route.
Looking at a map of a BTT trail sign, we see a track that goes down the valley faster to find the main road. Once there, we realize that the track, always downhill, has sections of trialera (easy), steep slopes, unmarked grassy paths, bad track, mud and stream crossings. What a surprise! We carry bikes loaded with saddlebags and back covers, some "Schwalbe Marathon" are a bit fair for the chosen terrain. Beware of the start of the track which is not easy touring mountain biking, rather mountain biking. Still, we enjoyed doing a short walk. Fun ;-) Surely there is some other way to go down to the Valley for a much more comfortable track.
Once on the main road, there is a lot of traffic, long climbs, some mountain passes that make us a little tight. It's hot. Long and fun descent to the village of Rucăr, which seems quite pleasant with a mountainous atmosphere.
We are no longer officially in Transylvania, we are in the Wallachian region (Țara Românească), south of the Romanian Carpathians.
We still have a long way to go to get to Câmpulung, the big village (or small town) where we want to sleep. We are going to look for the chosen Pension, "Un Baiat si o Fata", a pension that is also a pastry shop (contact@unbaiatsiofata.ro - www.unbaiatsiofata.ro) Room 160RON (= 35 € 2018) with breakfast for a couple. The room, which tries to be modern and luxurious (but it's a tacky point), has a wall with translucent glass that leads to a common area and there is a lot of light at night. Very large and comfortable room. Good breakfast. On another street they have a pretty bar-restaurant. There is nothing remarkable in the city, or we have not seen it.
Let's have dinner in the village because there is an offer.
Next day's route:
03/10 Câmpulung - Curtea de Argeş (Transylvania)
